Don't forget your #2 Pencils... and your oils!  Essential oils can make the task of standardized tests less stressful, and more successful.  Kids, teens, and adults can benefit from the mental and physical support that nature offers.  Why not help the brain and the body put their best foot forward?

It's important to remember that children are more sensitive to essential oils, so use smaller amounts and dilute the oils when applying topically to reduce sensitivities.  Don't worry, you won't reduce the effectiveness by diluting. dōTERRA's Fractionated Coconut Oil is a fantastic carrier oil that is a great choice for diluting because it can actually help the oils to absorb in a way that delivers them into the body slower, creating a longer lasting effect.  It's also very good for conditioning the skin.

Topical application is usually best for individuals, but diffusing essential oils is an excellent way for an entire class to experience the benefits.

Set the stage for a great test day with these tips:

Focus

Dot on a tiny amount of dōTERRA's focusing blend, In Tune.  This comes in a roller bottle and it can be applied to the two soft areas directly under the base of the occipital bone on the back of the neck.  (You can apply the Fractionated Coconut Oil to the skin first if you're diluting).  In Tune has a very strong aroma and you don't need much so apply sparingly!  I love the aroma, but if your child does not, applying to the feet is a discrete way to get the focusing benefits as well.

Vetiver is another great oil to improve focus.  If my thoughts are jumping around a lot Vetiver helps me to overcome that.  It's a very thick oil, so I prefer to hold the bottle directly against my finger and tap the bottom of the bottle to force a drop out.

Calming

Many children, teens, and adults struggle with anxious feelings when they sit down to take a test.  These emotions can interfere with test performance so it's very helpful use calming oils ahead of time.  Serenity, Lavender, Peace, and Wild Orange are our favorites in our home.

Stress Reduction

Help your body and mind to relax with a drop of Balance oil.  Apply it to the bottoms of your feet or onto your neck where you can smell the relaxing and enjoyable fragrance.

Energy

Peppermint and Wild Orange are my favorite combo for creating alertness and a burst of energy.  Fill a roller bottle with a little of each and then equal parts Fractionated Coconut Oil for an easy energy boost tool that can be used to apply the blend mid-test when brain fatigue starts to set in.  Apply to the neck and shoulders or inhale from the bottle for a burst of alertness!  Apply this oil ahead of time for young ones so they don't forget to avoid touching their eyes in the middle of their testing session.

Recall

Frankincense is the brain's favorite oil!  Try a drop or two under your tongue or on the back of your neck to improve mental clarity and memory.

Good nutrition and supplementation is essential to supporting the brain and the body.  Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for optimal brain health.  Choose foods that are high in Omega 3 fatty acids and supplement with XE Omega (capsules) or IQ Mega (liquid) to adequately support your brain health as well as other important functions of the body.

Next time you find yourself studying for an exam, be sure to pack and prepare your favorite oils.  Now that you have these little bottles on your side, it's game on!
